Catalyst Announces Leadership Transition

The Catalyst leadership team celebrating the milestone near their corporate headquarters in Santa Monica, California.
Catalyst Environmental Solutions Corporation (Catalyst) is proud to announce a major leadership transition to further drive its growth.  Dr. Daniel Tormey is transitioning his role of President to David (Chip) Blankenhorn.
Chip will utilize his significant management and operational experience to propel Catalyst through its next phase of growth. Dan will continue as Managing Director of Catalyst with the objective of using his extensive experience and world-class technical expertise to better focus his energies on client-facing activities and strategic visioning to capitalize on the significant opportunities in the environmental marketplace.

Catalyst has seen significant growth in our key market sectors, service lines and geographies since startup. This transition leverages the key strengths of both Dan and Chip to further bolster and drive Catalyst’s success as its increasing size requires a step change in managing the business.  This transition is also a significant milestone in the Catalyst strategy of continuous succession planning from its initial start-up in 2016.

Dan noted the clear advantages of this transition, including the timing for fresh energy and management focus after almost 10 years of startup growth: “Chip has been Director of Client Services for Catalyst over the past 8 years and our decades of working together makes him an obvious choice to lead Catalyst into our second decade of operation.”

“I am excited to take on the role of President and honored to have the opportunity to lead our incredible team. Under Dan’s leadership, we’ve experienced amazing success, and I am looking forward to working with our team to continue that success and drive our growth in the marketplace” Chip said.

Dan is a founder of Catalyst and has served as its President since its inception in January 2016.  He is a globally-renowned expert in energy, water resources, geology and geomorphology, and land management serving both private and public sector clients. Dan has served on two National Academy of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine science advisory boards, and California Council on Science and Technology advisory boards and steering committees. He is also a research scientist in geology, geochemistry, and volcanology, and serves UNESCO and the International Union for the Conservation of Nature through the World Commission on Protected Areas Geoscientist Specialist Group in the identification, development, and selection of world national parks and World Heritage Sites.

Chip has over two decades of successful work experience in all aspects of the environmental consulting business including delivering complex, interdisciplinary projects, preparing and executing focused business development plans and strategies. He has led different levels of operating units including a 1,500-person national division of a publicly traded, global engineering and environmental services firm. He has worked over a broad range of geographies and markets and utilizes his diverse, interdisciplinary background to build both organizational and project focused teams that develop, execute, and deliver cost-effective solutions to our clients.
