What becomes an Icon best?

Modern volcanology is often said to have started with the 1980 eruption of Mount St. Helens. This eruption was unusually well monitored and observed and subsequently studied by scientists from around the world. The establishment of the Monument protects and preserves the landscape around the volcano, allowing for study of the system response to this major perturbation. Catalyst is helping Gifford Pinchot National Forest with outreach activities supporting selection of long term safety enhancement measures for Spirit Lake. Geologists, biologists, local tribes and communities, government agencies and national conservation organizations all have an opinion on this icon of outstanding universal value!

Recycled water

Los Angeles Mayor Garcetti has committed to the City recycling 100% of its wastewater by 2035.  The city turned to Catalyst to assist in developing an environmental approvals roadmap that will be efficient enough to meet the aggressive timing goal, and thorough enough to be robust to legal challenge.

Invasive species

As California’s climate changes, both native species and agricultural production are at increasing risk from invasive species. Catalyst brings innovative thinking and rigorous analysis to support our response to this continuing onslaught.

Dam safety

America’s dams and other water infrastructure are aging, and in California we are increasingly vulnerable to a more extreme range of hydrologic conditions and seismic risk. Lake Oroville’s spillway deterioration before our eyes led to a much-enhanced dam safety program in the state.

LA enhanced water management plan

Anyone who saw the movie Chinatown knows that Los Angeles relies on water supplies located hundreds of miles from the City. About 1/3 comes from local groundwater, but more is needed to offset reductions in this distant supply as they are managed increasingly for environmental protection.

A new city

Housing is a defining issue for California as it continues to grow. Catalyst has been supporting the development of a large community in southern California; it may be the last new “city” that is approved within Los Angeles County owing to the lack of open space.

We are service-oriented, entrepreneurial experts known for our creative problem-solving and communication skills

The current trend in the environmental consulting industry is consolidation, resulting in increased focus by large firms on commodity-based work focusing top line revenues.

As demand for environmental consulting services increase, Catalyst Environmental Solutions fills a growing gap in the market by providing attentive, high-quality, and full-service solutions.

Completed first 150-page EIS in America following the 2018 Regulatory Guidance

“Catalyst completed the first Draft EIS in accordance with the Department of the Interior (DOI) NEPA Streamlining Initiatives, for our San Juan Deep Lease Extension. Catalyst quickly responded to the new guidance helping OSMRE to reduce the project schedule, revise the EIS to meet the 150-page requirement, and drafted materials to assist with the Clearance Briefing process. The San Juan EIS was selected as the first EIS to go through the pilot program for the Clearance Briefing process. Catalyst's work won high praise from the DOI Review Team on the quality of the EIS and the Clearance Briefing.”

Expert advice

“We really appreciate your time and the expert advice that you have dedicated to our operation. We are still a small explorer and the number of issues that confront us can, at times, seem almost overwhelming. The support we have received over the last twelve months has been critical in enabling us to satisfactorily respond to these demands…Your experience with similar developments in the US and your ability to put the risks into relatively easy concepts has also been very useful in local meetings and, while it is probably not in your job description, you have been a very useful “media”star for our area of operations.”

True NEPA experts

"My team and I have been very satisfied with the work you and your team have performed in assisting OSM in preparing the EIS for the large, complex, and controversial Four Corners Power Plant & Navajo Mine Energy Project (FCPP/NMEP). Particularly noteworthy has been the job you have performed as the project manager of the consultant team.  Your ability to communicate, both verbally and in written form, along with your clear understanding of all technical portions and concepts of the EIS, has been exemplary.  In my 35 + years of experience I have come upon many who claimed to be NEPA experts but very (very) few who actually could demonstrate that they were indeed NEPA experts.  You are are one of those very very few."

US Office of Surface Mining, Reclamation, and Enforcement

CEQA Experts and Trainers

"The Catalyst team has been outstanding from start to finish in their work with us on the CEQA EIR for our Bollona Creek TMDL Project. My group is new to CEQA, and Catalyst took the time to explain the process, provided in training in CEQA do's and don't's that significantly enhanced our public outreach, and themet our challenging schedule goals successfully. Compared to other CEQA analyses I have heard about, this one was made to look easy."
